Hey all, Yes I am new here. And I have already found tons of useful Info for my project, which is a 91 F250 extended cab 4x4 that was an Arizona left in the yard truck (12 years) with all the usual fuel, dry seals, and dead rubber issues, but that is for another thread. Instead, I wanted to ask, since I don't as yet own one, what is your favorite code scanner for an ODB1 truck like this?
Oh and yes I checked the tech sticky and it had a link but it was a deadend. Besides, this way the answerers are more current. <o></o <o</o <oThanks in advance.</o
Hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread, but maybe I could get some info on favorite OBD II code scanners as well? I know in this subforum, it will only fit one model year (1996), but that's what I happen to own!
I have this code reader bought it from O'rielly and have used it on all my OBDI vehicles and I have to say I love it. My buddy whom owns a shop up here recommended it to me. I only hate that it doesn't do OBDII or my 07 Harley but I can get separate code readers for that.
Trav
Works great. Comes with a detailed book to decipher the codes including instructions. Works for various Ford vehicles 1981-1996
He did ask about a scanner. The Innova 3145 is a great Code Reader and I like it and have one but it is not a scanner.
Not sure if a Scanner will do any more than read codes on a 1991 depending on engine size and GVW as far as a Scanner goes. I like the Actron Scanner CP9190-9185. I have the CP9190 and it works great for scanning the data wires in the self-test plug for my 1994 & 1995 Fords.
joegeds,
It also works great on the OBD-II systems.
Here is an example out put from my CP9190 reading data:
I will take what I can get... and I am used to a scanner for the OBDII stuff like my 2001 Jeep TJ, but I am completly ignorant as to the capabilities of a ODBI system. I have and older Proscan for my ODBII cars and trucks and I sure like to see real time data.... Had a loose connection on an injector once that I dont think I could have found any other way, but if read is all I can do I will take that. I am DONE with the flasing light method.
As I said it depends on your engine size GVW as to it you can read data or just get codes.
You did not say what your engine size or GVW was.
By the way you do not need a code reader to get the codes on the Jeep. You just turn the key on and off three times and the codes will be displayed on the Odometer LCD.
I know this works on my 1999 Jeep GC.
OOPs, sorry, Its a 91 F250 Ext Cab 4x4 with 7.5 and a E4OD. I know it has the heavier Dana 50 Twin I Beam in the front but I dont know my GVW. Is it on the door jamb sticker?

Yah, pop open the driver door and its on the sticker. Not sure if it makes a difference really?
A 7.5L would not have the data lines until 1992.
The GVW is only for the 5.8L engine, if the 5.8L truck is over 8500 GVW it does not have the data lines either until 1992.
The 1991 5.8L under 8500 GVW and the 5.0L & the 4.9L have the data lines.

Well now I can hit the pillow knowing I learned something!
