quick few questions guys. I have now shed my 3rd rear axle in my 95 bronco and im wanting to up grade. I was thinking dana 44 hd outer front and keep my 4.09 dana 44 inners, and upgrading to a sterling 10.25 rear. I have found two 10.25 sterlings. one is from an 87 and the other is an 91. I was wondering does anyone know if the 87 has an abs tone ring in it and if so can i just use my speed sensor in it. I know the 91 has the abs but i have a much better deal with the older axle
the 91 axle would be the better option, the 87 wouldn't have a tone ring. Make sure the 10.25 is a FF axle as some had been semi float. you will have reprogram your PSOM so it calculates the different tone ring in the 10.25. an 8 lug swap has been done on the TTB many times so do some searching to assist in gathering the correct parts.
next questions is why are you on your 3rd rear axle? can you give us some specs on your bronco.
Unless you are making 700+ hp a 9" ford rear would be the better choice. Much easier to bolt in and will handle almost anything you can throw at it.
And a whole lot more aftermarket support. If it is good enough for nascar or pro stock it should be good enough for anyone with reasonable expectations.
I have a 351w still, cam exhaust, intake is about it. I broke my 2nd e40d so I put in a manual. It was the t19 I believe and I exploded that along with my stock clutch. So I now have an upgraded clutch and a zf5. The first rear axle I was doing burnouts with a trailer and a ramcharger on the back. So I know im a dumb ***. Second one the spider gears shattered, also my fault. Third time I built it up and being more cautious since I am now older I was trying not to drive like a teenager. So I have kind of lost confidence in the 8.8 since I am still looking to stroke my 351. I thought of the 9inch but I do like the speed sensor in the rear end
My VSS relocator cost me exactly 300 I havent installed it yet but its nicely built. I like the 10.5 but than you have to worry about separate lug patterns unless you do an outer swap on the front.
So you go with a Sterling rear end. Next thing to go is driveshaft. Upgrade it and its tranny time. You either need to spend lots of $$ or stop driving like a teenager.
