You should be able to find a usable - even mint - '66 item out there somewhere. I got a desert part for a couple hundred and I'm a long way from the desert. After sandblasting some rust was apparent but it was easily fixed.

battery tray mounting is different as is the rubber mounting as well (think the holes are a different size ) also the radiator mounts and a few holes to mount accessories are a bit off so . Good thing is that is still uses the angles inner fenders and will work without major headaches and fab work .
the article above is for 4WD , 2WD uses a different setup all together . the 65 support is available reproduction for 2WD .
NPD lists it for 1965 2WD

You can use a reproduction support for a "patch panel" on your '66 support. That way you keep all of the '66 features. We couldn't find a decent radiator support so we ordered a reproduction and used the bottom half to repair the original RS.
Marking the cut lines.
Cuts cleaned up, making a template using masking tape.
Took measurments of various points so we could align the template, then stuck it on and sprayed silver paint to mark the cut line on the new RS.
Initial fit up of the two pieces.
After final fitting, welding, and smoothing the welds. Really surprised at how well the two pieces fit together.
I have a repop radiator so Im sure it is generic and can be made to fit any core support.
As I say, there is nothing left of the core support below the battery tray.
Im not a welder so I will have to have the missing pieces fabricated if I cant find a suitable 66 2x4 replacement. Along with the repop support, welding, fabrication, prep and paint, Im sure that Im looking at $600-700 to repair the support.
What Im looking for is a bolt in solution using a 64 or 65 4x2 repop support with the associated inner fenders and battery tray? My inner fenders are full of holes left by stuff the PO's had bolted there I would need them filled and I could use a new battery tray anyway.
Im not to worried about keeping that original, I just want it to look good and be functional.
