Original owner

Today I met with the man who bought my 78 brand new in 1978. His grand son found my pictures and posts and sent me a p.m. a couple months ago. It was nice to meet Gene and his family.
He would like to buy the Bronco back. It's a tough position to be in, I love this Bronco, but how often does the original owner have a chance to find their rig thats not all beat to hell. He had several pictures in an album so I know for a fact it was his. He was a police officer for 21 years and took a 460 out of a '75 squad car rebuilt it and swaped it in to the Bronco.

That's me in the shorts with Gene the Original owner

Tell him he needs to buy another decent looking 78/9 then trade it to you so you aren't out of a bronco.

Interesting thought. I don't know what I would do. It would take a few days for me to decide.

Very cool! That's neat the grandson tracked it down.

I've seen your Bronco at the Anoka car show and talked to you down there a couple times not too long after you bought it. That's a great truck and I'd think twice about letting it go too!

That's interesting, but think about what's best for you on the long run, either the cash or the truck, or as Fordman said, them finding you another nice Bronco.

I think that's awesome that you sold it back to him.

Reminds me of my Dad.
He spec'd out a brand new 1969 Camaro from the factory when he was in officer candidate school in Florida and ended up driving it back home to Montana once he got out.
In the '80s, after having 4 sons, he did the "responsible dad" thing and sold it off and always regretted it afterward.

About 11 years later, while we were living in Idaho, the original owner was selling it and got a hold of my Dad and asked him if he wanted to buy it back. My Dad jumped at the chance and did a 1500 round trip to go get it. Unfortunately, in this case, the original owner had completely trashed it, so my Dad spent the next 5 years restoring it back to how it original.

That was over 20 years ago, and we still have it. My older brother (who was born the same year as the Camaro and came home from the hospital) owns it now and drives it regularly.

So, I know how much it means to the guy to be able to get his original vehicle back, especially when it's something that you loved. A Bronco is something you undoubtably make a lot of memories in.

That's a cool ending.

Your new bronco should look sweet when it's done!

you either make a lot of memories in it or a lot of babies. Ha!

On the serious note, it was good that you done it. It would be a hard decision if you did put a lot of effort fixing it Up.

But you made a new friend...maybe yall can get together and create a loCal bronco meet and ride?
