throttle body cleaning
I took the throttle body off of my 96 F-150 and it has quite a bit of carbon build up in it. I want to clean it with chem dip but on the throttle body it says it should not be cleaned because it has a special coating on the surface of the bore and plates. Is there any way to clean it?

yes. i use the throttle body spray from the local auto store. the carb cleaner is the same stuff i think. just spray on and use toothbrush and rag. be sure to get new toothbrush for your teeth.

Be sure to use a TB spray cleaner that says it is OK for the costing. Many newer throttle bodies have a kind of plastic coating on them to help lessen deposits(kind of like a teflon fry pan). Some of the older TB cleaners and carb sprays can remove the coating which would lead to increased deposits.
So read the lable or ask the parts guy(assuming he knows what he is doing).
