If you want to retain your present TFI coil and it's wiring, which many have done, you may do so this will solve part of your parts search and help with some of the wiring. User "jimsrebel" has done this as well and recommends the use of a GM HEI module in place of the usual ECM on the fender-well. If I were you I would research this as an option, and build your own harness good luck
A bit of clarification on acronyms and terms...
An ECM is an Engine Control Module (otherwise known as "the computer") and controls not only the ignition and its timing advance but also the air/fuel mixture.
The ICM is the Ignition Control Module (aka the Duraspark box aka the electronic ignition module), this controls only the ignition and is what I believe you are referring to.

Ive been going over everything I need for the duraspark 2 conversion and was wondering if every i found Will be compatible? Im just making sure that if I buy parts for an earlier model 4.9 that they will fit my 86. Ive pretty much found everything I need but I wasnt sure it would definitely fit. Thanks for all the feedback.
Not sure what parts you are speaking of, but the wiring harness needs to be from the 80 - 86 era and a DS-II harness. The distributor should be the same through the years, as is the blue-grommeted module and coil.
Sorry to keep posting all these questions. Just ready to get my truck going. I was just wondering what carb I should get. Ive seen plenty of carter yf carbs on ebay. Will this work? Or, if anybody knows the correct carb for a good price will you post a link? Thanks for the help and I promise ill leave yall alone now. Lol
On my 1986, I started out with a Carter YFA from a 1982 truck. It worked fine, except the throttle shaft was worn causing a vacuum leak. You have to reroute the choke hot air tube, since it attaches on the opposite side of the computer controlled original carburetor.
When I replaced the carburetor, I found one from a 1970 F350. This was before emissions and EGR. The two holes for mounting the carburetor had to be elongated slightly, but that only took about 15 minutes with a rat tailed file. It has worked out very well. This particular carburetor had the hot air choke, only [no electrical assist].
Does the choke hot air tube run into the intake or exhaust manifold? I just completed my Duraspark conversion and left the old one sticking up for the time being. It keeps feeling like I have a vacuum leak and it just dawned on me that perhaps the giant pipe sticking up not connected to anything could be the culprit.

It is a"closed" cavity with an in and and out.... so the loop could not be the source of a vacuum leak
Thanks for the quick response! So if the choke is working properly with my current setup anyway, I shouldn't really sweat it? I'm not building it into a show truck (just yet); I just wanted to get it through emissions and running better. It already has passed and is running a million times better than it was with the feedback setup, but it's just not running perfect yet. Thanks for the help!
