My 97 F350 Dually has the dual fuel tanks with the switch on the dash. My wife and I are starting to travel a good bit pulling our 5th wheel camper. I was just thinking about the transfer switch and what I would do if it quit working while we were on the road somewhere a long way from home. Is there anyway to manually bypass it and get it to pull out of the other tank? Just want to be prepared in case. Thanks, Mike
The only way would be to bypass the fuel tank selector valve, by removing the lines going from the selector to the engine, and the lines from the full tank and then hooking them together. Not a fun process, but it would let you limp to where you could get a new valve.
I don't know for sure without splicing/tying some hoses/lines together, or having a spare. I'd just carry a 5 gallon jug full of diesel, that way if you go to switch and the bad luck comes and it doesn't work, that 5 gallons should get you to a station.
I usually carry two five gallon cans strapped into the bed. When I start getting back close to home, I will empty then into the truck and get back home with one almost full tank at least.
