6" lift issue

I've never lifted a truck before, and I've come across a snag. My front driveshaft doesn't line up with the axle yoke. I've got a cv shaft, so how do I fix this?

Explain doesn't line up please. Maybe even a photo?

I have a 78 F-250 that I am very close to installing my 6" Skyjacker kit. This will also be my first experience lifting. I read the stock shaft will likely fit without having to be stretched (replaced). Mine is a regular cab.

as it sits, the driveshaft is inline about 2" above the yoke. I can't get it down far enough to line up. The trans is just sitting in place with no engine, so it will move some, but I'm afraid it will make it worse. I will try to get a pic tomorrow.

Front Drive shaft:

Here's what mine looks like. I'm thinking it's the factory piece. I did not take measurements and obviously its not installed.

Actually now that I re-read your post I am thinking the engine might pull that transfer case down. My memory says its heavy on the tail end and it will sit back quite a bit. If your suspension is fully extended then that might spell worse case scenario. Are your shocks installed?

Do you plan on doing some serious off-roading and flexing?

There are several other members here who also have 6" lifts and I don't recall them mentioning any front shaft problems.

2x.... wait til the engine is installed before raising the alarm on the front driveshaft.

Also, you should also be aware that a longer rear driveshaft and extended length brake hoses are required with a 6-inch lift.

In principle, 1/2 or less of the slip splines can be exposed with all of the weight on the ground. Again, ya won't know that until the rig is fully assembled. That's the main reason the driveshaft(s) are one of the last things that are fabricated or modified as part of a build.

6 inches is gonna put the driveshaft at max exstention for normal driving. I'd wait till you get it all together then have the shafts lengthened accordingly. And I'd recommend not to go with a longer splined shaft. It'll twist like a candy cane if your putting any serious power to the wheels.

Sorry, been busy.

It's an F250, no track bar. Only things not installed are pitman arm, ds and brake lines.

My stock Scab ds was about 2" longer than the one from the F350. I plan on swapping back to it to see if it's long enough. If it's not, I'll just have one of them lengthened.

Relax brian after you get the motor back in there you should be ok. I put a 6" on ol red and did not have to change a thing on the front or rear d/s. The rear replacement springs did come with shims.

The pinion angle that affects the yoke to u joint body clearance is what to ck closely. You can always grind a little clearance in there....it all depends on how much you plan to really off road that mini school bus. lol

For the front d/s at the xfer case.

silver 77.5 CVC stock wit a add-a lift on the front
blue 78 CVC 4" Rough Country
red 79 CVC 6" I cked the lower u joint to yoke clearance at static, its close but ok. Did not have the means then to ck loaded and unloaded, but I think it will be ok.
