In anticipation of buying the 65 F100 that I have had my eye on, I put my 66 and the 76 parts truck on CL for 6k.
A guy showed up today looked the 66 over, didn't even want to drive it.
He offered 5k cash.
I just couldn't let it go.
It is a solid driver, It tracks true, doesn't overheat, steering is tight, no rust except for the core support, I have all the parts to install a electronic dizzy, 4V, power steering, rear gears, disc brakes. I just need bumpers, paint, and misc trim refinishing.
Basically, I know what I have and I guess that Im not willing to roll the dice on something else.
I have a completely original 65. Unrestored. 65000 original miles. ZERO rust. It had an overhead camper on it all it's life and there isn't a dent one in the bed. I am the second and a 1/2 owner. Previous 1/2 owner was a wrecking yard that had it for just a few months. County code enforcer made the original owner remove truck from side yard so he just had it hauled off.
Long story short. I paid 500.00 for the truck. If someone offered me 5k for it I would have jumped at the offer. I only have a gallon of primer invested in it.
Why don't you just send your 66 off and get a professional restoration done? The way you want it. It sounds to me like you have your dream truck in mind. Make it happen with the 66. It was the last year of the best years.
