F-550 Customized Information Needed

Gentlemen, I come today with a project I need vast help on, before we all begin, I need to explain something. I am currently an active duty U.S. Marine, and of course the Corps has trucks everywhere. One day this gentlemen brings this beautiful “F-550 Diesel” to my eyes and I proceeded to speak with him and talk to him about this amazing vehicle. He seemed weird, didn’t talk much about it. After we were done talking I copied down his VIN and looked into it. Come to find out this truck was an F-250 and he purchased F-550 Decals and slapped them onto his truck, when questioned he told me; “Well it’s all the same, an engine is an engine, it’s the same thing”. Just for this comment I will get revenge.

My next project is to build a four door F-550 Diesel, get a 12’ lift kid, get a custom made truck bed and slap it on the back. Once done, with these, I am going to get it painted black (for some reason most of the 550’s are white). I know it’s a commercial truck and I know the engine is the same within the 250s. But as everyone says to truck owners; my manhood is too small to want anything less. Haha.

So I need some assistance within these matters my friends. I am going to get a used F-550 and remove whatever the hell is on the back and begin my workings. Before I begin I need information, such as will custom rims go on normally. Will a lift kit work, general truck modifications that will not work with the everyday F series. So therefore please tell me anything that may not happen with my future plans.

The big future plan; starting it off with the F-550 Diesel, four door, hopefully extended cab. Find someone to put a “normal” truck bed onto the back and remove anything that is on the back. Next once the bed is installed, Rhinoline the bed, and I am going to get a 12’ lift kit, installed by whomever, most likely a Fabtech system. After these steps are completed, the truck will go into paint and come out with a black finish. Next up is the front and rear bumper, both custom made out of metal, black. Next is to be a bull / brush guard, custom made, with housing for four KC lights. Next is to replace the lights. The front lighting will be blacked out with HID projector lenses. Hopefully available without custom modifications needed. Tail and rear third brake light are to be replaced with LED systems, and be blacked out. Once this is done, purchase a tool box, black, if not black paint black and get installed into the bed of the truck. Last modification to the exterior would be step-ups that go down when you open or unlock the truck, I’m sure this will have to be custom due to the length as it may be longer then a normal F series truck. Moving into the interior, remove whatever head unit is currently installed, and install a touch screen; AUX and Bluetooth radio. Install an amplifier, most likely 3000w +, replace all the door speakers, and install three subs underneath all the back end seating. I will also be installing two switches, one for the KC front lights, another for a PA system, I am not sure about a train horn, but it’s a possibility.

Gentlemen, at this time, please tell me where this is not going to happen, I think the most hardest hitter will be the rims, as the 550s don’t have normal patterns, they look outward instead of a normal truck rim look. All help is appreciated and will be reviewed.

And for all of you, if you think I am going overboard just because someone posed as an F-550, well your absolutely right, and I’m a bit insane so this will be fun.

a puckup has 400+ hp, the F-450 and F-550 are detuned to keep from breaking things.
you can get the 550 any color you want. the reason you mostly see white is because that is a favorite color of contractors.
it is easy to match the paint when doing body repairs.
550's use dual 19.5 inch wheels, and there are no aftermarket rims that i am aware of. the 550 sits high enough that there really is no need for a lift kit.
and it will ride like crap without a load in it. the suspension in a 550 is STIFF

Ok. I don't quite understand what you're shooting for here.
The biggest problem if money isn't one will be the rear frame length. All chassis cabs (f-350,450,550) have a 9' rear frame length, minimum. So you'll need a 9' bed OR move the rear diff forward a little, shorten the drive shaft and cut the rear end of the frame off to use a regular 8' dually bed.
OR you could buy a reg cab 9' F550 and put a crew cab on that frame. Then you'd have a short bed crew F-550.
And everything tjc transport is correct. The F-550 have less power and torque do to different turbo and emissions requirements.
You can get wheel adapters to bolt Semi wheels to it but I think you said you wanted f-250 wheels?
