They are changing them so often to try to avoid problems of them breaking in or blowing out of the head.
That's right, and I can also keep an eye on the boots and water in the holes, also the plugs might be sparking at 100k miles but the MPGs and HP are suffering. I can put my cheap standard 103's in in about an hour and the truck always runs like a champ. Plugs start degrading the day you put them in just like tires start wearing the minute you drive them out of the tire shop.
Why the heck are you people changing the plugs so often?! They last 100,000 miles you know. Mine have 140,000.
They can be run 100k miles in most cases, sometimes even longer. However in my experience performance suffers and misfires become more common once you get close to 50k miles. I can change plugs in my 6.8l for under $30. It is cheap insurance if you want your truck running at its best. So I change them every 5 years or 50k miles. Just R&R a set of plugs that have been installed for a long time can clean up the ground and help the engine run smoother.
All a waste of time and money. My plugs have been fine for 170k miles and I change them every 20-25k miles.
Had it all checked in a shop in Mt. Shasta (town where I worked) and they confirmed the job was done wrong. Had a shop in Redding do the heads.....for me it was a piece of mine to have it all done since I was planning on full-timing with my 5th wheel.
