hello, i have a 98 ranger 3.0 V6 w/ 69,000 miles on it. it has just recently started to sputter or jump when i get into 3rd or 4th gear and sustain the speed, usually around 30-35 mph. i'm thinking it could be the plugs or the O2 sensor? Any help.
Thanks
Frank
Ken thanks for the info. I am going to clean both this evening, hopefully it will do the trick. I think i will replace the spark plugs as well, just to do it. I'll let you know how things went, and if it stopped the purging and sputtering.
thanks again
Frank
Make sure you go with Motorcraft double platinum plugs if you can, I think they are the best and the double platinum is needed for the DIS ignition system.
I would still do the cleaning stuff and then disconnect the negative battery for 15 minutes, this reset the PCM. Then see if the CEL comes back, if it does see if a local parts store (auto zone) will pull the codes and let us know what you get.
I am going to start the cleaning, but I was still a bit hesitant and have just a couple more questions. I know I unplug the wiring from the MAF sensor, do i do the same for the body throttle? And the MAF has a black plastic thingy on one of the star's, should I just pop that off? Thanks for the help, and I'll let you know how it came out.

Hello...i took it to a mechanic to get the diagnostics. The only thing that came back were some ERG or EGR codes. It wouldn't let him run the self test either. He said there was probably a piece of carbon stuck in and its not letting it shut all the way, for the air to go through. im takin it back in monday to see if that is all that is wrong w/ it.

it is the egr valve....the mechanic i go to is really far behind on diagnostics so he cant get me in. its either the passage to it, maybe clogged w/ a piece of carbon or something, or it is one of the sensors? i would like to try to clean this out myself. is this a complicated project?
