also, if you can clean them, what would you use? maybe chemicals or compressed air?

They CAN be cleaned, if nothing has failed (rubber diaphragm not ripped or anything like that). I personally have used WD-40. Anyone else use something better?? (I would bet that spray silicone would work well, although I've never tried it on an EGR valve ... tried it on other things, and it worked well ... the solvent cleans stuff like the WD-40 would, but the lubricant it leaves behind - silicone - is more temperature stable, and more friendly to rubber & polymers).
