Another warm rough idle/stalling thread
Engine: 4.9 I6
Transmission: 5speed manual
Issue: rough idle, starts surging low, and stalls when engine warms up. Won't restart without holding gas pedal. No check engine light.
Work done so far: New IAC, TPS, Air Filter, recently replaced front tank fuel pump, replaced dual function reservoir
Thoughts on what to do:
EGR: read that it could be an issue and possibly not needed? Unplugged didn't help. Took vacuum off and put tape on end (definitely felt it moving air), didn't help. Would a new EGR position sensor or valve help? When the engine dies I can hear the EGR buzzing from the air I think. Is that normal?
MAP: read that this could be an issue and checked the vacuum line going into it and it seemed fine. How could I tell if the sensor needed to be replaced?
Temperature sensor: read that this could be an issue but not sure why. What signs would indicate that being an issue?
Summary: The truck is old but has very low miles on it. I am hoping to get it in descent running condition but it sounds like a lot of people have this issue and it almost never is caused by the same thing. I just worry that I will be doing a lot of work without fixing it, so I figured I would ask the experts before getting too far.
Tools: nothing too speacialized, just your normal toolbox stuff, but I do have a multimeter if someone could advise how to use it to track down problems. Anything else would probably require me to take it to a shop.
Turns out it was the Fuel Pressure Regulator. I figured it out by taking off the vacuum tube that ran off the top of it and it was spitting out fuel. Replaced it with a new part from autozone ($30) and so far so good.
Hope this helps someone else out.
