Ok , my truck is a 1986 f150 with a. 302/t18 combo. I attempted to replace my valve cover gaskets and intake gasket. When pulling off everything I put the bolts in little bags and kept everything . Some how I lost the center bolt witch is a t40 torx idk how I lost it but I did . Dose anyone know yje size length and thread size it is? Plz help I now have a vacum leak
I don't know. If no one else answers, is there another bolt the same size but possibly shorter? I would take it out and take it to the store to find out the thread size. If it threads into the block it's probably standard, but if it threads into the lower intake it might be standard or metric. Ace hardware has a good selection of bolts. If it has a small head on it, you might have to buy a allen head bolt, I doubt you can find the torx type bolt.
For the length, get a small screwdriver and stick it down in the hole to get the depth. You should be able to feel when the threads start. Try to get a bolt that is about midway in the threads without bottoming out.
If you have a die grinder or dremmel tool you can grind off the two "guides" that restrict access to that middle bolt and then a standard bolt and socket will get in there no problem... just make sure the bolt you use isn't too long.
i went to the hardware store and bought 5/16 20 studes for all the upper bolts except the pain in the butt one anf that is a allen bolt. the bolts for the fuel rail is a 1/4 in 20 by 3/4 in long all for less then 15 bucks.
