To much coolant?
The question is this. I seem to remember reading some where that if you fill the degas bottle to the max line that it will puke out some fluid when it gets hot and that the bottle should not be filled above the MIN line. Is this so? Right now the coolant level is at the MIN line after the coolant loss on the trip. I just don't want to go running back to the dealer for something that isn't really a problem.
The truck is an 07 with 69,000 miles and is under Ford Premium extended warranty for 2 more years or until 83,000miles.
Thanks,
Steve
If not, the minimum line is the full level. Over filling can cause venting. I run my coolant 1/2" below the minimum on my tank.
And you are saying the ECT got to 228*? Did your fan roar at that temp? If I recall, the truck should have de-fueled before that temp. Is the EGR valve plugged in?

ISSUE:
Some 2003-2007 F-Super Duty, 2003-2005 Excursion and 2004-2006 E-Series vehicles, all equipped with a 6.0L engine, may exhibit coolant venting from the degas bottle cap. The condition typically occurs when operating the vehicle under a load such as trailer towing, uphill driving, or both.
ACTION:
Prior to making any repairs verify the coolant level is not overfull. The level should be at the "MIN" line in the degas bottle at operating temperature. Overfilled coolant levels will cause coolant to vent from the degas bottle cap. If the degas bottle is not overfull, and is still venting out coolant, refer to the following Service Procedure.
I live in the west so I am often pulling grades with the 5th wheel hooked up and the temps usually climb into the high 220s but they don't stay there for long. I have never had any codes relating to ECT or EOT. I run an Edge Insight and keep a close eye on things. When the ECT reached that temp the factory gauge was still in the safe zone.
Thanks for the reply.

The highest ECT temp I see is 221*. EOT will get to 235* on occasion.
The new level sticker's max should have been enough to keep it from venting (I think).
Since you have that warranty, I would swing by Ford and let them know what took place, and document the issue now. Might even want to have it scanned for codes, one could have been set without the light coming on. Does the Edge pull pending or soft codes?
