I am not sure if my mileage will change, but I know I will lower the RPMS and with those gears I will be in the correct power range for my 460. Mostly because with the CAM I have Comp Cams highly recommends 4.10 gears
I got 13 driving 55-60 yrs ago when engine still had some life left -this was with 3.5 gears and c6-everything stock.
Now with 300k miles or so and the addition of a 5 speed OD I've got up to 15 mpg on highway driving easy "65-70" tops-2000 rpms max.
I've noticed the key to good mileage is keeping the rpms dn and I have a 600cfm carb. with as small a jets installed as possible w/o any hesitation or cutting out.
Looking fwd to seen if I can get any improvement after overhaul with slight changes like raising comp. from 8 to 8.8 to 1 and installing a straight up timing set.
Manuals don't takes as much power to turn, the motor isn't as bogged down. A C6 takes about 55 HP to turn. A ZF takes about 5. Plus with Overdrive on the ZF you are using 300-500 fewer RPM's. OD is a good thing thats why you see lower gearings in trucks, 3.73 and 4.10 vs. 2.75 and 3.08 that came in most of the 70's trucks.
