95 460 dies at stop lights sometimes ? help
hi, I have a 1995 f350 47,000 miles its a motorhome with the fuel injected 460 gas engine. it runs great but some time dies and stumbles at red lights but not all the time. I replaced the idle air control valve. no luck there. I can drive for hours on the interstate and it is fine. but if I pull off and stop at a exit it will sometimes die. I can pet the gas and get it to go most times. but today I had to let is sit for two hours and cool off before it would start for me. and then I drove it 76 miles with no problems. (not sure what to check egr valve sticking ? tps sensor ? maf or map sensor ? check engine light is not coming on. engine runs real good and runs nice and cool no heat problems. I am on vacation 2000 miles from home. I have most tools on board and I am able to fix most anything if I can figure out what it is. any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you have good power going up a hill at WOT then it is not the EGR valve.
You need to check the codes in computer memory and see what they say.
The EGR valve is near the back ogf the engine on the drivers side of the throttle body.
My guess would be a bad Idle Air Control valve under the throttle body.
The photos below are from a 1995 F53 but your sensors and valves are in the same place.
Idle Air control valve:
Right under the arrow for the TPS is the EGR valve:

If it is the PIP sensor you will have a code in CM or it may tell you it is something else.
But if they try to replace the ICM with a Gray one do not let them. It takes a Black one and no there is not an update with a Gray one as some Ford dealers will try to tell you, don't buy it.
Also make sure the one you have on there now is also black.

In addition to the sensors/codes/elec items being discussed, I think it critical to measure fuel pressure when you're experiencing issues.........additionally, intermittent excess back pressure (potentially from a failing cat) can give similar symptoms.........(pull the 02 sensor to troubleshoot)

I checked and cleaned the egr valve. it looks like new no sticking works great. I also pushed the egr open with a screw driver to simulate it being stuck open. the engine runs rough. but does not shut off and it will rev up out of the rough running with egr open. so I don't think that's the problem. I also installed a new black ignition control module. (mine is black) and installed a new engine tempature sensor on the intake behind the distributor. I read where this sensor controls distributor fire and fuel somehow ? I will be leaving Williams, Az for savannag, Ga on Tuesday I hope this works. will let forum no if it is fixed. thanks for help everyone
