Early - I got lost in that wall of text with no capitalization or punctuation. I'm not sure that I can help if I understand, but I am sure that I can't help if I don't understand.

Thanks. That I can understand. By the starter drive do you mean the teeth on the starter's gear or the Bendix - the part that causes the gear to engage?

If you mean the gear, there are only a few things that cause that problem. One is the wrong starter - are you sure you are getting a starter for an auto transmission? The starters for a manual tranny are different.

Another problem is alignment. If the starter is cocked at an angle or the teeth aren't meshed at the right depth they will wear quickly. You mentioned replacing the bolts. Why?

yes the gear or Bendix. The threads for the factory 1/2 bolts stripped half way out.

The person who owned it before me had them bolts too tight and cross threaded and its the right stater for auto trans right gears.

Maybe drilling out the bolt holes and using bigger bolts that are snug in the starter mounting holes with locking nuts might fix this issue??

I'm confused. The gear is the pinion gear at the end of the starter's shaft. The Bendix is the mechanism that causes the gear to be moved into engagement with the flywheel.

The gear would get chewed up by working at an angle to the flywheel or not fully engaging. The Bendix rarely wears out quickly, but might do so if the gear isn't releasing from the flywheel and causing things to run way too long. And that would be caused by the starter being too close to the centerline of the engine, which would mean the gear on the starter would be very tight against the flywheel.

So, if the bolts you are using are allowing the starter to rotate or move because they are too small, then that may be the problem.
