Welcome! As Ray said - start with the current condition. If the truck has been sitting for a while, it will need new brake lines / wheel cylinders, new fuel lines, an engine oil change, and a battery - at the very least. Neglected flatheads should be lubed a bit before attempting to start and original - or old - wiring may be problematic.
We do like pics - and the stories that go with a family vehicle.

Welcome to FTE!
We love pictures. And we're all dying to hear about the history of your grandfather's truck.
You have definitely come to the right place for help, advice and encouragement.
And you should go to your User CP and add your location under Edit Your Details. Just a general area is helpful so others nearby can help and recommend services and good shops. It also helps if you need parts, so we know how far they'll be shipping.
EDIT: OK, I saw your other post about the Long Beach Swap Meet, so I'll assume you're in SoCal.

Welcome to the forum. First thing to do is check the braking system and all that FortyNiner suggested. Next is to gather plenty of time and money together for the work ahead. It will be well worth it as there is nothing like these old Ford trucks. Especially ones with a family history! Good luck with yours and post some pictures and tell us about the history of the truck.

My grandfather purchased his truck and was an everyday driver back in his hay-day. It was originally red but was later painted baby blue by my father who inherited it. After my dad could no longer use it, it ended up sitting. It wasn't until a few years back that I was asked if I would like to inherit it myself. Of course with excitement I gladly excepted. It is now in my garage and I am ready and eager to get it back on the road. I have since then pulled the straight 6 out so I can start the reincarnation of this F-1 pickup. Pictures to follow soon.

- The first thing that you need to do is complete your profile (click on "USERCP" then "Edit Your Details"). Most importantly the add the city and state where you live.
- Then click on "Edit Signature". Most important here is the model year and model of your truck. Adding a first name is nice also.
- Finally, as Joe said, make sure that you add pictures to the post. They are worth a million words and you will get faster, better and more answers.
