Service engine soon light is on. Can't get in to the dealer until the 18th...diesel mechanic on vacation. Went by O'Reilys to have the code read, but they don't have any explanation. P249F "Excessive Time To Enter Closed Loop DPF Regeneration Control" and P249C "SCR Time to Closed Loop" are the codes. It had wanted to regen a few times but I was in town. Drove 25 miles a few days ago and it never regened, but that was when light came on.
P249F - Excessive Time To Enter Closed Loop DPF Regeneration Control
Description: The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the diesel particulate filter to determine that closed-loop control of a regeneration event occurs within a reasonable amount of time. This DTC sets if time in closed-loop operation is less than an expected threshold.
Possible Causes: Damaged EGT12 sensor
Fuel injection concern
Damaged diesel oxidation catalyst
Biased diesel particulate filter pressure sensor
Damaged diesel particulate filter pressure sensor
Diagnostic Aids:
Application Key On Engine Off Key On Engine Running Continuous Memory
All GO to Pinpoint Test RC .
P249C - SCR Time to Closed Loop
Description: The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the amount of time elapsed until the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system enters closed-loop control. This DTC sets when the time elapsed exceeds an expected threshold.
Possible Causes: Damaged EGT12, EGT13, or EGT14 sensor
Damaged SCR system components
Biased NOx sensor
Diagnostic Aids:
Application Key On Engine Off Key On Engine Running Continuous Memory
All GO to Pinpoint Test RC .
I would go on a drive, 45 mph or above for 30 mins and see if it regens. If it starts a regen, do not interrupt it, stay 45 or above for at least 15 mins.
Any update on this? I'm curious what your fix was. I'm getting P249F and the dealer just reset the light and sent me on my why saying they didn't have enough information for diagnosis.
If vehicle is under 5 yr or 60k miles then take it back dealer and have them idle truck for whole day and try get concern to duplicate usually it's an egt sensor that reading bias if you don't wanna wait for dealer just buy all 4 of them and install them your self just be warn egts for 6.7 are on back order so dealer might mark up the price
