Heres the skinny, the truck has about 277 kms its a 04 cc lb fx4 and its stock. The guy has all the maitance records for it since hes owned it (90 thous kms). He's run synthetic from the front diff to the back since day one and the engine oil is synth 15w40
The truck clicks quite a bit when the gps are cycling (I am thinking its the gp controller) It starts pretty quick though
Doesn't smoke at idle or with throttle just a bit of black
I crawled underneath the truck and saw that the oil pan and front of the tranny are wet. It felt like engine oil but I am not sure. I also now that where leaks end up doesn't necessarily mean thats where they started. Should that leak be a red flag?
Iiirc any leaks are not good for the 6.0s?
I opened the degas bottle when it was cold and there was no pressure in the system at all.
There's a whole number of places they can leak oil from -- my "hanging chad" (drip at the bell housing) ended up being a bed plate seal -- big deal to fix, but not a big deal to have, and mine was fixed under warranty (finally).
Be nice to know if he replaced the HPOP or water pump type of stuff. We don't see synth 15w 40 around here, it's usually 5w 40 down here for full synth.
It'd be a good idea to get some gauges on it and check it out at various cold start, running points for how the oil cooler, FICM etc. health is.
Is it an early or late '04? Still has the EGR? See if the coolant hose off EGR cooler is blue or orange (the latter tend to leak), sometimes it's these little things that tell me how someone has taken care of it....
