Front caliper replacement issue....no fluid at bleeder

I just replaced the driver's side rotor, caliper and pads. The old caliper was locked up (I think), rotor was cracked and pads were shot. Anyway, everything is installed but I'm getting no fluid at the bleeder and the caliper is failing to compress the pads against the rotor. I can wiggle it, there's that much play.

I removed the banjo bolt to see if I was getting fluid at the caliper fitting. Had my wife step on the pedal and presto squirting brake fluid. I assume that means the line is ok. I can hear fluid squirting inside the master cylinder when the pedal is depressed and the line connected to the caliper. Is there a step in the caliper installation process that I'm missing?

Any ideas....I'm confused.

Thanx

Could be...at the risk of inadvertently sounding insulting, are you opening the bleeder, pressing and holding the brake pedal, tightening the bleeder, and then releasing the brake pedal? Repeat this procedure until brake fluid without air bubbles comes out of the bleeder.

Is there fluid in the reservoir?

Yes I'm following the procedure....but maybe I'm inadvertently missing something in the process. It wouldn't be the first time.

I'm using a one-person bleeder bottle thing (you know with the check valve), I may have been lax in tightening the bleeder valve before my wife let off of the pedal.. It's back to square one in the morning. I'll be doubly diligent in the steps I follow.

Eureka...there was no fluid at the bleeder because the brake hose was clogged. That was the underlying cause of locked up caliper, cracked rotor and worn pads. To add insult to injury the fitting where the steel brake line attaches to the brake hose was completely boogered-up so I had to replace entire line and hose from the ABS pump to the caliper. Installed everything, bled the line ... good to go. Thanx guys.

Peace

But didn't you get fluid squirting out when you loosened the banjo bolt?

Sure sounded like a clog in the bleeder esp since fluid squirted past the banjo bolt.

I got a squirt out of the banjo fitting when the pedal was depressed, but I only had my wife step on the pedal once. I'm thinking there was a partial clog in the line that allowed a small but inadequate amount of fluid to pass through. After I removed the line and hose I cut the hose off the line and found I couldn't blow through it....ergo clog. At least that's my theory.
