Are the regulator's interchangeable in these, meaning can you just buy a new one? Mine quit charging today on me. I guess I will go to the pick a part and find one for now, but I'm not having much luck finding a good one.
Not quite sure what you are asking, the voltage reg is internal to the alternator. If a tester is saying the reg is bad, then replace the alt, or tear down the alt itself and inspect, and repair or replace.
I was just having a hard time locating another alternator, there is a guy here that hoards them by the wheel barrel load and restoring sells them.
I got lucky this am and found a car that they couldn't get the hood open on and scored one.
I learned a hard lesson. I am a couple hours from my shop and had no access to my parts stash. I ended up blowing a mega fuse when my alt went, but didn't realize it at first because it looked fine. Being that I had put the Painless 3G kit in my truck, I had no access to another fuse that size. The Painless mega fuse is half the size of the Ford one, and nobody sells them here. I ended up buying a new mega fuse holder at Napa and putting a Ford mega fuse in so that in the future if one goes I have access to parts anywhere. I will be pulling that Painless fuse holder out of my Torino when I get home and mounting one of these in as well.
