96 transmission problem????

96 transmission problem????
I have a 96 bronco w/ 351W automatic trans(not sure which one) 
It does have the towing package, if that will help. Here's the problem....the OD light on the colum shift keeps flashing. Sometimes it starts after the truck reaches operating, sometimes it comes on no matter what the temp, and then it goes away for half a day at times. I also get a check engine light every month or so and it usaully goes away within a couple of days. The truck seems to shift fine cold or hot. I just wanted to pick your brains before I took it in to the dealer to see if they can read any codes. Think it might be the tranny or maybe just a sensor, or PCM???? Any suggestions are welcome.......please 
By the way the truck has 133k adn some change.
