Ford 400 stopped running..

Okay so i pulled the distributer (never checked if it was on no.1 on tdc, stupid on my part) and checked the gears on that and the cam, they both look good. so i put the balancer on tdc then dropped the distributer in where it should go. then i tried to start it and it fired right up! the only thing i can possibly think of is the cam to distributer gear skipped??

That would be nearly impossible. Did you check to see if drive pin in gear was sheared? That would explain things.

i haven't checked that. i drove the truck most of the day yesterday and it didnt act up at all. but if that happened it would make sense
