What is it?

I have a '98 Ranger with a 2.5 liter. I need to know what that device is in the center of the photo.(the thing with the little green cap on the left side) It sits on the drivers side wheel well. I need to replace the two hoses that come out the backside of it and was wondering what type of hose I need to get. Fuel line, vacuum hose, or something else? Yeah I'm a bit clueless, so go easy on me. Thanks for any help that can be provided!

Does your truck have a clutch? That looks like the clutch fluid reservoir to me - I don't know what the green cap is for - I've been wondering about that myself...

It does look a little like the clutch reservoir but it's not. Here's another angle with the contraption circled. The cap thingy does spin around but doesn't come off. One hose runs to a hard line that goes under the intake manifold and the other goes down to another hard line and back along the frame. It also has an electrical hookup. It appears to be part of the fuel system. I'd just like to know what it's called and what type of hose I need. I'd guess fuel type hose, but I just wanted to be sure.

That is a test port for your evap emission system. The cap removes and a tester connects to ensure your evap system has integrity. A new federal law brought to you in 1998.

Thanks ranger pat. So regular fuel line hose would be OK for replacing the hoses connected to it?(not the hard line, just the rubber hoses)
