Preferred method for determining new pushrod size?
Can anyone please help me out with the correct procedure to determine new pushrod size after head work has been done? I am working on a 390 FE with non-adjustable rockers. It is a fresh rebuild. This is my first go round with an FE and they are certainly are a little different. I have a comp cams adjustable push rod. The way that I have been doing my calculations is by setting each lifter that I want to measure to the valve's closed position (lifter on base circle of lobe). After that I take my adjustable push rod and set it to zero lash with the rocker taking care not to put any preload on the lifter at this point. I then loosen the rocker shaft and pull the push rod out and count the number of turns until it is closed then multiply by .050 and add it to the measurrment of the adjustable pushrod in the closed position. Am I then supposed to add to this the amount of lifter preload that i want? How can i determine how much preload i need? I am using an edelbrock performer plus 2106 cam and lifters. Thanks
post this in the engine section and someone smarter than us will give you the correct answer.
