So I had my water pump done around 150K, about 6 months ago, but within the last couple of months a little hex bolt/screw on top of the the water pump housing has started leaking whenever the truck sits the pressure presumably makes the coolant weep out. The new pump is a motorcraft but I haven't been able to find any info on that little bolt/screw.
I've tightened it some since it wasn't real tight but it still leaks. Would it be safe to use thread locker? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thread locker is to keep threaded fasteners from loosening. This is neither a fastener, nor is it loose (presumably). For this application, you want a thread sealer.
I have no clue, my shop kept my old one and I never really looked at it before it got replaced. My temp gauge still works, or does whatever the stock gauges do lol. After the pump and the flush though its run much cooler. Great avatar fordpride btw!
The leak from that plug only leaks enough so that a few drops run down the front of the motor and accumulates a couple of drops on the crank pulley. Whenever the truck is cold the belt squeaks for about 5 minutes, could this be from the leaked coolant getting on the belt or pulleys? Drives me insane in the mornings.
Ok. I wonder why they are putting two holes now.
I have a brand new ford pump in the shop that only has one hole
I believe the short stem thermostat pumps have always had that extra plug. this could be a '94 or '95 truck with a short stem pump. tough to tell for sure from the pics but the last one looks like the lower hose pipe is part of the pump and not bolted on.
It's a 95 F350 SRW, I can take some better pictures since it was dark when the first ones were taken. I know the pump is brand new, had to wait for it to fly up from Houston.
