For the last 3,000 miles I've been hearing a thumping/ banging noise from the front end when going over sharp bumps in the road.
Sounds like strut/shock problem.
The dealer says a visual check shows no evidence of a problem.
Any ideas or recent discoveries about this?
I've got 19,000 miles on it. I'm the original owner.
somebody around here said something about a thumping one time. something about where the body connects to the chassis comes loose and needs to be retorqued or something. sorry i cant be more specific. kinda lame, i know. i think the thread shouldnt be too far back. a lot of people said that the dealership couldnt find it and finally some mechanic did something and it fixed it. im such and idiot. my mind is going in my old age(22) so i cant remember it that well. sorry
check the mount for the upper track bar. Also, check the sway bar links (make sure they're tight and in good shape).
Those are the usual suspects.
Might want to check some other nuts and bolts while you're under there, too.
The people that assemble these trucks have bad days, too.

I have been reading numerous posts over the last few months where many of the F250 or Excursion folks are experiencing this same problem. I myself have an Excursion with approx 19K on it and it does the popping noise every now and then. Some days are worse than others. I noticed it changes when it rains, as if it dries out and pops constantly for a few days, and then goes away.
I have crawled all under this beast and nothing is broken, loose, no signs of anything with rub marks, etc.
The majority of the claims from the dealers have been eventually discovered Ball Joints that are dry and pop. Recommended to replace them with greasable joints.
Lots of folks go to the dealer several times with no findings.
I myself....if something is going to break, wear prematurely, it will surface and then they will fix it. I am not going to waste a lot of time worrying about it since I don't think it is a real functional problem....just annoying at times.
I have a twisty hill driveway and when backing down, it pops at least once every morning, but never hear it again on most days.
Nature of the beast!
Thanks for all the suggestions fellas.
MyBlueCrew, I hear that jingling too.
That one seems to come from my right front, but really doesn't bother me.
The "main bang" is from the left front.
I'm gonna go over this thing closely.
I've thought about having it checked by a private mechanic, but it's still under warranty.
I don't think that dealer mechanics are really motivated to find the problem; they make money by charging Ford for work and not solving anything.
If Ford keeps paying it, they'll keep "fixing" it.
I've got 15,000 miles or 1 year and 2 months to find this culprit.
I have found in my 4 months (6K miles) of ownership that this truck has rattles coming from everywhere. On semi-smooth road surfaces, no noise........but, when it comes to terrain flaws, especially the sharp jolts, my entire cab vibrates. All for doors feel like the window tracks move up and down. I have some sort of creeking sound from under the dash.....to many to name. I have given up trying to fix these things and simply turn up the radio.
I had the same thing going on with my truck MARZ06.
When it was new, everything made very wierd noises, but now they've all seemed to have settled and stopped.
The front end problem is not normal.
I'm going to try another dealership and if that don't work, to a private mechanic.
I just got my '01 F350 back from the shop ( miles43,000). I have the same problem. A pop somewhere in the left front. I can actually feel a little pop under my left foot when it does this, and as everyone has said it dosen't do it all the time. The shop said they thought it might be a cab mount, but didn't fix it.
They did pack the slip jiont in my driveshaft, which he said looked like it never got greased at the factory. This fixed a little bump I was feeling when accelarating from a stop.
I know what you are talking about Menudo. I was off roading today and it was doing the thumps I coudl feel in the front left and sometimes in the back, and no it wasn't me hitting rocks on the diff. i don't understand it either, but it sometimes just stops and is no more. In the FAQ section on "Rolling Chassis" there is a post that says that is a common ailment of our beasts. Must just be the way it is! I wouldn't worry til it happens often or does something nasty.
TorqueSD, it does it all the time now. I heard and felt a wobble towards the rear, and that got me thinking that it may be the drive shaft or something associated with it.
I am going to go over this thing supper closely.
