Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has replaced the front airbag crash sensors. My airbag light has been on for quite some time and i have decided to fix it. Can I find the parts at a local store or do I need to go to a stealership for them? Thanks in advance
Before anyone else chimes in about safety, an air bag circuit has a capacitor that retains power for a very short time. That time can be variable, so after removing the cables for both batteries, give yourself a short break before messing with the air bag system.
Parts source-junkyards are a good source for a cheaper, but unknown quality. Are you willing to trust the operation of the air bags to parts from a junkyard.
Another source is gray market or non-oem manufacturers. The manufacturers of these devices vary in quality, so the dealership is the most reliable from a reliability standpoint, but are most expensive. Body shops do buy those parts from other sources. They even install fake airbags which fool the controller, but which do not operate when needed. Best of luck, Larry
