Electric windows mechanism, does anyone recognise it or do you know if parts are availale?
Hello,
does anyone recognise the brand of power window mechanism in this picture. I can see no brand on them. I have stripped the drive gear and can't find a supplier for them. I found a company that imports a windows mechanism that looks similar, and may be the right one. However, they say the company does not provide parts.
Perhaps someone will know this brand and if parts are indeed available. Otherwise I am just going to bite the bullet and buy a set from midfifty. I need to get it fixed with a few other problems, so I can drive it regularly and leave it parked safely.

It's just a guess, but it sure looks like it could be Specialty Power Windows. They use GM parts in their kits, so depending on what's wrong, the part could come from a GM dealer.

Looking on their website, nothing seems to match what I have. It may well be though that the gear is a Chev part. My mechanic thought it may be one to raise and lower the headlights on a corvette, but it was similar but not the same. He reckons he has seen one like it but can't place it. Chev parts suppliers are not that thick on the ground here in Aus.

Thanks for the responses fellas. These units actually worked quite well right up till the time one stripped a gear. One day I will probably find one of these gears, but I think I will just buy the midfifty ones and move on.
I have asked them the question but haven't heard back yet, about which of their kits to buy. It's probably just me but they talk about their preference for the 56, and say one can also be used for curved glass (53-55?) but it is not clear to me which is which.
1740-E 1740-EX, no doubt I will hear from them soon.
I also have to replace a side window. I had hoped to take it to Cooly rocks on shortly, but I think I left my run too late. It is a ten day rock and roll festival and finishes up with a 2 day car show. I did try to load up some pictures of the last show, but had so much trouble getting a few into my albums I gave up.
Actually I will try again.

You may want to look at Nu-Relics here:
Nu-Relics Power Windows Catalog Ford Ford Trucks
They make model year specific kits for Ford Trucks using the existing mounting holes with mechanisms similar to the original mechanism. I saw the 48-53 kit at So-Cal Speed Shop Arizona last week and it is a good quality kit. Pricey but this may be a good substitute for your broken one.
