i think all you will ahve to change is the computer and wire harness to match other then that it should be the same i think. the only other thing i can think of is the external parts like intake setup and stuff like that ya know. you would have to use the trucks:-)

The 5L HO has a different firing order than the regular 5L's of this time frame. Do a check through the archives and check the 302 forum at the bottom of the forum lists to give you some more help.

hello Kevin. I just swapped the 302 engine in my "88 E-150 for a 302 from a Lincoln '89. I stripped everything off of the donor engine and then bolted my '88 parts to it. The only Lincoln stuff used was the block with the heads. I'm not real sure but I'm thinking that the HO engine may use a different firing order. Anyway the only really agravating thing I ran into was that the water pump turned the wrong direction. This just meant I had to change the timing chain cover and water pump to make it work in my van. Because of space constraints I couldn't keep any of the Lincoln stuff bolted onto the engine such as the alt,ac comp, etc. You may have enough room under the hood in a pickup so that this isn't a problem. Good luck

I have a 89 HO mustang engine in my 92 f150. I used the mustang long block and all of my truck externals. Just change the plug wires to the HO firing order and you are ready to go. The only problem I have encountered(other then bald rear tires) is an idle that sometime wont go under 1200 RPM. Any other questions feel free to ask me.
