BEcause, when I did a google search of "images" of the mazda TK ....the Mitsubishi trannys images also came up. BTW, I left the word transmission out of the search.

SO..... I was inquiring if...the Mazda and Mitsubishi trannys were the same thing?? Sorry I didn't word that very well. The Mits trannys had a couple of different styles as well. AND yes they ( the Mitsubishi units) apparently were only for the ranger and Bronco IIs

Just trying to make sure we look for the correct thing....

And yes, 300's, 302's & 351W's all have the same bell housing/bolt pattern.
AHhh that helps thanks!

so the 351 Cleavland had a different bell housing pattern? or are they same as the Windsors?

Now say we do happen find a ZF tranny and it was mated up to a small block.....302's or 351W'. ARE...the input shafts the same??? or would we need a clutch and pressure plate & fly wheel grouping that came from born with ZF or the 300 engine?? cranks shafts bolt pattern the same?

Are the input shafts the same length? Number of splines?? etc

I guess the same questions would apply to the Mazda TK?

when we opened up the old tranny there was a couple of gear clusters that had pretty significantly gnawed up gear edges & maybe a cracked gear or 2?. So we are expecting that the synchronizers are pretty trashed...Soooo it looks like IF...& that is a BIG IF, we kept the old 4sp, we could get bearings and seals and that is about it...don't seem to be able to gears and stuff. Or are we not looking in the right spot yet?

Thanks for all the input.

I've found Novak's site & people excellent to deal with - The Novak Conversions Transmission Information Gateway

If you do stay with the 4-spd, you'll be able to i.d. it & get general information on their site........also rebuild kits & parts.

good info there too. thanks

Yeah we can find rebuild kits for what was in there (the 4spd)....but they all lack gears of any kind.

NOW...when searching for "used trannys" out of the salvage yards.

there is a promt asking for different gear ratios or extension housings lengths....what is that referring to??
