Hello all! I am new to this. Not just to this forum, but to Fords in general. I am a die hard V8 Chevy man and that's pretty much all I've owned (had a Ram D150 Custom once but it also was a V8). Honestly wasn't interested in a Ford anything until my dad showed off his F100 he had in the back of his yard. It was love. I am still a GM man BUT I appreciate ANY domestic powerhouse. American muscle is american muscle. So I now own the 1973 F100 Ranger 460/c6 and am really interested in this truck.
One of the cylinders had a massive crack in it, which was why it was out of commission in the first place. So I will be building another 460 for it. I am interested in possibly turning this truck into a pro street truck. One thing I'm not looking forward to is the weight of this truck. I'm not into heavy vehicles at all so weight reduction research is a must. I have done some good research on the 460 and these engines can really be powerhouses with just a cam, intake, and headers. Just glad I have a new project.
Well, that sums up my dealings so far. Hope to see you all around
Now that you are thinking right....lol JK Welcome to the blue oval club, took you long enough....lol again. We are glad your dad showed off his F100 too.
Get the Pro Street rule book and put that fatty on a diet.
Lots of good 460 info in the BB forum, and don't forget to join your state chapter to get help instate.
Let the flaming begin! GM doesn't go over well around here.
The 460's can be some HOT motors when built up. For the build you should look into the stroker kits that push 557ci with the standard bore. Lots of cams, pistons, heads, intakes, headers exc.. can be found. Then there is the 1,000+hp range with forced induction.
Lol I could never give up on GM. It's where my love for American muscle began. My dad's white 88' S10 with a SBC that ran in the 11s. That truck was almighty.
But I've been looking around here and have seen that there are some pretty cool guys here with some good knowledge. I've already learned a ton today already. Is there a weight reduction section around here?
Ok just remember, we are one team, one blue oval on a Ford truck site...I had a friend with a 86 1/2 Chevy it was ok looking, but I'll pass on the rest.
73-79 Ford trucks all the way, 66-77 Bronco and 78/79 Bronco's, and the rest of my sig rides all the way. Oh yea I have a 99 Dodge 2500 diesel.....I like it too.
My apologizes if I came off harsh. I was just giving the guy a hard time. Like most on here, I am not a die hard Ford fan. I am rather a fan of good maintenance and customization regardless of make.
Welcome to FTE, there is a wealth of knowledge to be found here and plenty of nice folks. As far as a weight reduction section I don't think there is one, the 73-79 section is probably your best bet for information.
And to be perfectly frank, I've been pining for a '90-'93 454SS pickup as my daily driver...
Beast! Those trucks are rare where I'm from! I've only seen 2 but I'm not positive one was an authentic 454SS. And I'm in aviation myself. Air frames aka metal banger
