Does anyone know if the supercharger from the F150 Lightening can be adapted to the Expedition. I have a 2000 Expedition 4x4 and would like a little more grunt in towing the boat, but I like the truck and don't really want to get a new one. I don't know if the 4x4 transmission/transfer case will handle the extra power. Any ideas or experience?
First off, welcome to FTE! Thanks for taking the time to participate in our community
The guys over in the Lightning forum may be able to provide a better answer to your question, but as far as I'm aware, the engine is the same. I think you'll be ok as long as you're not running too much boost - most of the time, supercharged engines have beefed up internals. That's why all the Honda kids keeping deep-sixing their little motors - a stock 1.6L 4 banger can't hang with a supercharger.
I would think that if you added a S/C, ran synthetic oil, and didn't go overboard with the boost, you'd be A-Ok.
However, have you looked into other alternatives? Maybe a shift kit, intake, new exhaust, headers, computer chip, larger throttle body? You could do all the mods I just listed for about the same as you'd pay for a supercharger, and these mods won't carve years off of the life of your engine.
Oh, and if you're going to be using your truck for heavy-duty service, I enthusiastically recommend using synthetic fluids for the extended drain components (transmission, transfer case, differentials).
Also, my Transgo shift kit is easily the BEST modification I've done yet.
Well I agree that all the aforementioned modifications will be necessary eventually. Do you know if headers and a true dual exhaust is available for the F150 and will it work on the 4x4? I'm going to try the flowmaster site and see what's there. I started this way with my 95 Mustang- first it was the headers, then the 3" exhaust, then the Vortech and then, well right now it's in the shop for the new Currie rear end and the aluminum racing block is on order to go with the AFR heads.....I have a tendancy to get carried away. Thanks for the help, I'm sure this will be an ongoing project

I don't think a dual exhaust is available; the gas tank is on the driver side of the Expy, and there isn't any safe way to route an exhaust pipe around it. The Flowmaster Force II Catback system is a favorite around here; a lot of us have it and are pleased with the results.
I'd say do all the little mods first, then assess whether or not you really want a S/C.
It's nice having the real crazy gearheads around here - you guys are a great source of info, and you crack me up! You should talk to Rtpjunior and Tyger25 - those two need to attend some meetings to get their modding under control!
I just purchased a Kenne Bell (www.kennebell.net) S/C for my 2K Navi but have not yet installed it. If I had a factory choice (my Navi is the 32V Intech) I would have probably gone with that; however, the KB kit seems very well engineered and documented. I'll update my progess here under an existing thread that I started if you are interested.
Thanks for the update- I will definitely look into the shift kit as that will help it pull the big boat on the hills. I couldn't agree more about synthetic fluids- after the first 10,000 miles I run all my cars (except my wife's- she always gets tired of them after two to three years) on full synthetic oil. I'll look into the transfer case and tranny fluids too.
The buzz on the cat back system is that flowmaster is better than anything else around. The guy that I have do custom exhaust prefers it over anything else.
I really should post a picture of the rig and the boat. Since my name is LEMON and I'm a cancer doctor the truck has the license plate LEMON8R and the frame says: Working together to eliminate cancer." I had it painted yellow with black trim right after I bought it. The 95 Mustang GT is heavily modified and it's plate is DR LEMON. The boat is an Eliminator Eagle 250. Oh heck, I'll just send you all picture.....
