Hi There, I have a 1994 f-350 with the 7.3 IDI turbo diesel and I was wondering if anyone knows the max. trailer weight this unit can pull. My manual only gives specs on the gas engines and the diesel supplement guide doesn't provide any answers either I would appreciate any replies! Thanks!
Ya, the sticker says 9000 lbs. GVWR. I wasn't sure if that was the right number for towing or not. I put on a 10,000 lb hitch today so I guess thats my limit anyway. The engine seems pretty strong so I don't think I'll have trouble towing my skid steer and trailer (8000 lbs. combined). I just bought the truck a week ago and so far I'm quite happy with everything. Its a 4x4 with a 5-speed manual.
On another note, we have a barrel of diesel grade 10w30 we use in our skid steer, I was wondering if its ok for the truck or if I'm asking for trouble. Its problably ok for our -25 C winters but unsure if it will protect enough in the hot weather. Thanks for the reply.
She'll handle 8k trailer no problem. The limit will be somewhere around 17k ~20k GCWR depending on rear gear and tranny combo.
The Enterprise has a rating of 17k GCWR and I have gone over that on a few occasions which is not really all that hard to do, when I fill up the aux tank, throw some wood, bikes and hitch up the TT for a week long trip. Normally we fly with three adults and two kids in the cab, she handles it great. I say when the bumper is startign to drag the ground then worry.
For example I was in another guys 91 F350 CC Dually with 25k rolling down the road, it performed great. Slow on the take off, but to be expected. The suspension handled the weight nicely (goose neck flat bed)
These trucks can pull a great deal more than what your hitch is rated for.
I'm sure I'll get flamed for this post, but heck their trucks work 'em that's what their designed for.
Thanks for the tips, drive it like you mean business... right! I've had the truck for just a couple of weeks and I get lots of comments. Its got a flat deck with removable sides and some big rubber I'll try to figure out how to post a photo of the rig for fun We build houses up here in Alberta and I think the truck is going to work out great. I'm guessing I get about 13 or 14 mpg average which isn't bad considering my '85 gmc gasser with a little guttless 305 was getting around that. With the price of buying new, I'm pretty happy with what I got
