Ended up getting that ecoboost I had the thread about earlier, anywho I noticed it ticks at idle? I haven't gotten a chance to take it to ford yet b/c I am working out of town. It sounds almost identical to the infamous 5.4 tick. The truck is a 12 with 68 thousans kms/~42k miles

It's the inherent ticking of the high pressure injectors. Sounds like grandma's 100 year old singer sewing machine.

This is exactly why modern engines have beauty cover on top of them! Most beauty covers have sound deadening insulation in them to keep injector noise from 'reflecting' off the hood and presenting itself appearing to come from the underside of the vehicle.
My old Hemi was a perfect example, I took the beauty cover off because the motor looks better without it, but almost immediately people were asking me if something was wrong with it
