Needed - Paint Detective....

OK, so I have a 1965 F100 Flareside that has been "restored" (if you can call it that). As part of the restoration the front fenders and driver's door were replaced and the original Warranty tag is gone. Addtionally, the truck has been repainted. I looking for the one or two spots that may still show a hint as to the original paint color. I have looked behind the door strike/latch plates, behind the gas tank, under the rubber floor covering and no hints at any of these spots.

Any detectives out there to give any other suggestions of places to look?

Consider that the entire inside and outside of the cab was painted body color at the factory.

Then the glass, weather strips, headliner, fuel tank, bench seat, floor mat, instrument cluster bezel, switches and etc. were installed.

Is the headliner still present?

Seems to me that you will have to portray Sherlock Holmes, Charlie Chan, Philo Vance, Phillip Marlowe, Nick Charles.

Use a pen knife or single edged razor blade, carefully scrape some of the new paint off to see what color lies beneath.

How about up under the dashboard? How about the firewall on the engine compartment side?

pull off one of the rubber plus to the cowl area an use a flashlight and inspection mirror to get a peek inside of there ... chances are you will find some factory overspray .

Pull off this black plate ( where arrow points to). This plate is often repainted body color after a repaint.

So, I'm doing the drum brake to disk brake upgrade to my '65 F100 Flareside. Upon removing the master cylinder to distribution block brake line bracket attached to the frame, I find that the bracket is painted dark (holly?) green upon removing all the grease.

Could this is be the original color of the truck or would these brackets have been painted prior to installation of the brake system????

The brackets shouldn't be body color.

How do you know the truck wasn't painted the original color?

There are multiple colors on the truck and the PO stated it had been repainted.....

So, why would the bracket be painted???

Take a body bolt out somewhere and see what's underneath.
