Tires

So just hit a huge pot hole. The hole ride home after felt like 1000 speed bumps. Left rear tire has a huge bulge in it. So I don't have a ton of free cash right now. Should I go with nittos or mastercraft axt

I would match what the other three are. Not all tires are built or handle the same way.

Assuming you're doing a complete set. My Nitto Trail Grapplers are to the point they're pissing me off with refusing to die. Almost 45k miles on them, and they have appeared to have almost stop wearing, compared to losing something like 4/32s in the first 10k miles. I'm done with saying Nitto automatically equals poor tread life. But looking at the Mastercraft AXT, it's more of an AT and I won't ever recommend Nitto Terra Grapplers. I'd choose BFG KOs over Terra Grapplers without thinking about it, so if the AXTs are a good price I'd say go with those.

There's always the option of finding some take-offs. You can run any factory wheel after 2005, so if you find a set run them until you can buy what you like and try to resell them.

Cooper AT/3 hands down the best bang for the buck. Wear, handeling can't beat for the money

Do you have the slip from when you bought the tire? A lot of places that sell tires these days include road hazard insurance. Over the years, I have been able to replace two tires practically for free. One was off a Neon when the lower ball joint sheared at 40 mph and the tire slid on its sidewall for 100 feet. The other was a PT Cruiser that got too close to the edge of the paved road and slid down the edge. They didn't even ask what happened.

Ok we'll I'll go with either or. So what's the chances of that tire blowing out. Cause the new tires won't be in for a couple days. And I have training for work everyday this week and have to drive it

Do you have Discount Tire where you are? I've had great luck getting their online store to beat the price of others (they love to crush Tire Rack), and often they will work with your local store and send them there direct. $19.95 set price for each wheel mounted and balanced....

I'm going to try another brand next time. My 1st set of BFG A/Ts delaminated (my fault really -- too much weight on too small rim). But 2nd set (right size) has a nasty hop in one tire and they ALL took a ton of weight to balance out...

Good luck!

I have to agree with the nittos on very odd wear, but only for the trail grapplers. They seem to wear those lugs down super fast until the 50% or so tread mark and then it wears rather slow. Mud grapplers will be burnt to drag radials in 30k easy, doesnt matter what you do. Terra grapplers miswell have no tread at all

Must be going around. This happened to me last week. Only 25k on that tire, and a few weeks over 3 years old.

The Nittos are made by Toyo. Toyo is the parent company of Nitto and has a factory in Georgia. The tread pattern on them is real close, with the Toyo's being a little more aggressive. I replaced the BFG's with a set of Open Country AT/II's last Wednesday. Put about 500 miles on them and already like them more than the BFG AT's I've run for over 10 years on various vehicles.

Got them in 285/75-18e (35x11.5) which is an "extreme" version. Just means that it has a wider void pattern and more aggressive sidewall. Set of 4, mounted/balanced/stems/weight/disposal/sales tax/FET/etc out the door was $1380. The 16's and 17's were cheaper too. Got them at my local Tire Pros (California chain). They beat Discount Tire/Americas Tire (tires dot com) by over $100.

k.

I'll call about those BFs. I like the way they look. Is a 10 ply fine for towing 7,8k every couple months.

I personally don't guess (much) -- we have a gravel quarry nearby that will weigh us 6 ways to Sunday. I try to stay under the 7k rating of the rear axle and make sure the tires support that...
