Ok, so I am nearly done with the beast's engine work. However, part of the problem with its performance is that the throttle cable is stretched. Is there anyway to adjust it without purchasing a new assembly? I noticed a small hex cap down by the accelerator pedal, and was hoping that I could adjust it there.
As far as I know there is no true adjustment. However, the real problem is probably that the bracket that holds the outside of the cable is no longer in the right position relative to the carb's linkage. I don't have the Street Demon or Wieand, but have seen this routinely on Edelbrock intakes and carb - both the carb's linkage and the two holes in the manifold that locate the bracket are in very different locations. And the result is that it takes 1/4 or 1/3 of the throttle cable's travel before you get any throttle action.
The way I fixed it on the engine that is now in Rusty was to cut the bracket from its base. Bolt the base to the intake and play around with positions the rest of the bracket until you have the cable pulling straight back on the carb and you have a tiny bit of slack. (But make sure there is some slack or you will have problems getting the same idle each time you let off.) then use a pair of vise grips, c-clamp, etc to lock the top to the base. Take it off and weld it up. Grind it smooth, paint it, and the throttle feels new.
If that doesn't make sense I'll look up my pics, or take new ones, for you.
Actually, I found a pic in Dad's Truck Build thread, here. This just shows what the bracket looked like, but you'll understand easily. And, I think I took pics and posted them a bit earlier than that in the thread.
Actually, Gary, it was stretched before I pulled the engine. And I can't really weld anything until next week. But the Weiand intake and Street Demon setup does result in an angle with the throttle cable. I will look into the bracket mods, and document for you.
I have an aftermarket Holley on my 351 HO. Throttle cable broke last week. There are several lengths available. I think mine was 27"..About $50 at OReilly's Made a BIG difference, as mine must have been at it's limit for a while. Much smoother now...
Critter - Documentation would be very much appreciated.
Jerry - I knew there are different lengths, but not what ours take. Thats good to know.
Does our resident expert NumberDummy know what length would be best? I guarantee that the manual has the length for the 2150's, and the Holley's on 351W's and 460's.

How can you guarantee the manual has anything if you don't have a manual? That's a serious question, not trying to be a smartass or anything.
I would guess which one is needed is determined by the calibration code and, therefore, the installed equipment, e.g. with A/C, with A/C and Cruise, with A/C & Cruise & California emissions, etc. etc. etc.
Look up that air snorkel stuff from air cleaner to radiator support, there are, like, 30-some-odd different variations of that stuff.
The air snorkel stuff was, indeed, governed by the calibration code since the ACTS had different temps. But the throttle cable went to the throttle lever on the carb regardless of A/C, transmission, cruise, or carburetor calibration.
Oh well, we will probably never know. But, I think I'll see what # is showing on mine, just for curiosity.
