Seeing the trucks monitoring Values like engine oil temp vs coolant temp engine hot open road 65 mph flat ground and even hills look at the spread between them no more than 15 deg and that is pushing it, cold starts? and hot Starts be the first to fire the engine first thing cold morning and how long does it take to start engine hot? monitor FICM, Battery, IPR, ICP VGT , when replacing the battery's always replace in Pairs, make sure the alternator is charging good , a bad alt and bat will kill a FICM in a hurry a bad ficm will massacre the Injectors It's Important to monitor these with a Gauge and not the Dash Gauge , Scan Gauge, Dash boss, ETC, the Blue spring will help in Fuel pressure and low pressure is known to hit the Injects aswell we have no sensor for fuel pressure so a gauge would be good to have or at least check and see what PSI it is, one last thing I know there's a lot more but always use OEM , the oil cap and filter is VERY Important and I always stay with OEM fuel and AIR filters too ,NOOO after market set up
I don't have gauges.. I have seen the one you spoke of for like $150 but I don't want to buy it before I get the truck. Would the dealer have these gauges?
Do you know anybody with such Gauges? Maybe a FTE member will step up and help a Bro out, take a look in the Chapters section for your area, I'm sure there's guys that will help You Need to Purchase some It's very Important to Monitor things before they go south. and helping you with a structured price on the sale
The scanguageII will be the best $150 you spend during to hunt for your new 6.0. Do not wait until after the purchase. I'm sure it looks good and starts great, but that doesn't mean the oil cooler isn't plugged and the FICM isn't at 36 volts.
PLEASE do yourself a favor and spend the little bit of money up front to save the thousands in the end. You will be very upset if you pay top dollar for a truck that needs a couple hundred to a couple of thousand dollars of maintenance. The dealer you are buying from probably has no idea what the ECT/EOT DELTA is, because it's doubtful they checked. That will be up to you. Then if you find issues, you can leverage that into your purchase price.
