I saw the best bet is to get a 05 excursion. You will get the upgraded front end, bigger brakes, 3v v10, 5r110w. This is the ultimate truck and even low mileage ones are very reasonably priced. This is my goal in the next few years. I'm happy with my 99 expedition(once I get it running again) but there is just something so sexy and satisfying about a 05 ex to me

Nope, the Excursion never got the 3v engines. In 2005 they got the front end redesign, but the entire powertrain was carried over from '04.
I thought I was reading a 6.0 hate thread for a second...then I realized my error. alot of hate for the 5.4 3v.
I am not sure where you are seeing a lot of hate for the 5.4 3V in this thread , I simply stated I personally prefer the 2V for the non cam phazer issue..
Ok on the phasers, but the spark plug issue is enough to turn me off!
'08-present engines use a more traditional plug that never had those issues. And the majority of '05-07 engines out there have already had a plug change with the improved 1-piece plug.
You could always have customautobytim make you one with a 3 valve V10. Ideally, I would get an 05-07 SuperDuty converted into an Excursion so that I could get the coil suspension and stronger frame.
