Hi
I just found this site and it looks great!
I am having problems with my 91 bronco, 302-e40d. I have rebuilt this tranny twice and fear that I am looking at a 3rd time soon. I have been told I cant swap out this tranny as the engine and the tranny run off of one another. Is this correct?
After being told this I figured I would swap to a carburated 351 c6 combo. When talking to a mechanic about this he said it would not pass the e test with this combo.
Has anyone else out there run into these problems? I am not opposed to changing engine as mine is starting to get very tired. If anyone could offer any opinions or advice it would be greatly appreciated.
you could swap in an AOD with no problem. just like wizard said find a bronco/truck with a manual tranny and nab the computer just make sure it has same engine as yours and you will be fine.
Thanks for the replies. I think I am going to look for a decent parts truck, and change the motor and tranny. Is the aod considered to be more reliable then the e40d? I have never been happy with the e40d. Any recomendations on going standered?
well the e4od is computer controlled, personally its one more issue that will get you stuck on the trail. sure it might be stronger but its way cheaper to get rebuilt and you can get it built just as strong for a good price. a local shop in my area wanted 1500 for a strong rebuilt aod that would handle 500lbs of torque. not to bad if you ask me.
