10.25 LS to a locker
Hi,
In my 1989 ford f250, i ran the tags and found the truck to be a HD model which would make my rear axle be a 10.25 full floating 4.10 with the 35 spline and LS. I was wondering what my options are for lockers? i have been looking around but have been having alot of trouble finding a good locker that will work because of my limited slip. I don't want a locker that is always locked because this will also be my street machine. How much are my locker options going to cost?
Thanks again,
Zach
No rush on this one because i don't plan on buying a locker until fall or winter but have been curious.

would something like this work? - Lock-Right Locker, Ford 10.25 12-Bolt 35-Spline or http://www.4wheelerssupply.com/catal...ducts_id/73173
Would i need any additional parts?

What kind of limited slip device is used in the stock rear axle?
The Lock-Right is a "locker" type limited slip differential, maybe with a gentler spring than the original Detroit Locker. But it is the locker type that you said you didn't want; it's always locked, until stresses from the wheels on each side turning at different speeds force the locked teeth to overcome their spring pressure and pop apart. The ad seems to imply that this unit can be installed in place of the spider gears in the diff, without having to disassemble the ring and pinion gears. This is certainly a lot easier than the ARB, which will require complete dis-assembly of the diff. But the ARB can be kept off, and activated only when you need it, as long as you have pressurized air.

The stock LS is really poor. I would go with a TruTrac, its a limited slip, not a locker, but much more street friendly and significantly more effective than the stock unit. Mine has been great, never had a one-wheel-peel with it. Another good thing about the TruTrac is there are no clutch packs to wear out, it is a gear-driven LS.

My experience with the Tru-Trac, It went 1/2 mile and made a bad noise. Got back home and the shaft would turn about 1/2 turn before it would catch. A real piece of junk as far as I'm concerned but in all fairness they did give me my money and freight charge back but I was out the set up time.

thanks for all of the help, i don't think i would really want a better LS unit like the trutrac, i think im looking for more of a selectable locker like an air or electrical locking differential since my truck is more of an off road machine anyways, i just want something that won't rip up the tires on the street. I think that i might be most interested in an E-locker. What are my options? what are they gunna run me cost wize?
(my truck is an 89 f250, 5 spd OD with a 6in lift and 38x13in tsl bais ply's, 160,000 miles on a stock 5.8l)

that sucks, Do i need a compresser some where in the truck in order to uses an air locker?
I just went to an air locker related site (ARB Air Lockers, Compressor, Pump, at the lowest prices) and found that for all necessary parts it would easily be over 1,000 dollars.
How well do the truTrac's work?
It might be cheaper to find a dana 60 and buy a locker for it
What is the real difference of a locker to a trueTrac locker?

Thanks a lot for all of the help, i think i will probably end up going with the TrueTrac due to the price. I also found this good article with a lot of useful information, Detroit TrueTrac® Differential
Thanks again,
