I am in the process of restoring a 1986 Ranger and i need to replace both window motors. does anyone have experience in removing them? Any help is appreciated. thanks
You may have to drill some access holes to remove the mounting nuts. After you remove the latch lever screw, armrest, use a wide blade to pull the inner panel off. There will be a 'humidity shield' held in place with black goo. Remove it carefully, and watch for getting the goo all over. It will drool.
Now you can see into the door. Look for a dimple in the sheet metal immediately outside of where the motor & regulator are mounted. I had to drill one out for access using a 1/2" drill bit I think. The new motor came with instructions and possibly a plastic plug. It was over 20 years ago, so memory is a little vague. I think you can use tape, clear plastic packing tape or duct tape to hold the window glass when the motor is removed from the regulator.
If this is not enough, let me know.
