Sensor, oil pump,or main bearings.Mine is the same way bought it like that.Used some napa motor flush today. Will tell you the results tomorrow after i drive it a while.
I've heard that the stock sending units/gauges are junk. Mine reads pretty low all the time also. I've talked to a few mechanics and they've told me as long as the motor is running fine and not making any noises, then don't worry about it.
It's still a little hard to look at the gauge and not worry about it. But, it's not making noises, and it's got plenty of power...
You need to be very careful here to prevent damage to your engine. I hope you have not been driving it while you are trying to figure out what happened.
When you flushed your engine some things may have happened that affected you oil pressure.
(1) The "flush" could have dislogged some particles or sludge that went thru your oil pump and clogged up the check valve in the pump, pick up screen, or oil passage.
(2) Some sludge or particles may have gotten into the oil pressure sending unit.
You need to determine if you have low pressure or not. Buy, or borrow a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Remove the stock oil pressure sending unit and hook up the mechanical gauge.
Start the engine and check you oil pressure, If it is low then you have a problem as outlined in (1) above. If that is the case you will probably have to drop the pan and replace the oil pump and pickup.
If the oil pressure is OK on the mechanical gauge then you just need to replace the stock oil pressure sending unit.
I use synthetic oil in my 76 jeep and it still has the same pressures as the regular oil i use to run in it. I'm not sure how sensative the pressure sensor is in your truck. I have a mechanical oil pressure gauge.
I just took off the oil pressure sensor and attached a mechanical one. I drove around for an hour and constantly checked the pressure. It seems like I have about 10-12 psi per every 1000RPM which is right on the money. I guess the Flush may have damaged the sensor...This happened to my Jeep as well. I just got a new sensor and will connect it as soon as the block cools down...
