In a pickup with a V8? Maybe with some tall gears and if you never go past the old double nickel.

Any vacuum secondary carb is only going to let as much air through as the engine needs regardless of cfm rating. A smaller or larger 4v won't make much difference in mpg.

FWIW, the Edelbrock 500 and 600 cfm carbs have the same size primary and secondary bores/venturi. There are some internal differences, maybe, besides the jets and rods.

When the intake valve closes is the single most important factor in determining a cam's rpm range. Cams with shallower ramps - i.e. large difference between advertised and .050" duration - hold the intake open longer.

I was getting 17mpg with a screwed up 2barrel. That was at 65mph with no overdrive.

Now I've got better performance parts and a more efficient intake system. So I should at least get the same.

Better timing set, better intake manifold, better carb. I guess a milder cam.

Doesn't add up to much, but it should still help mileage.

Interesting. Timing set shouldn't affect mpg, a better breathing intake and 4v definitely could.

Well it's straight up right now. And the cam has a 4* advance ground in.

It has a 108 icl and a 112 lsa. That's a 4* advance right?

110 icl is straight up, you have a 2 degrees advance if you have the 108 icl, degee the cam! Most grinds are off... And use a a/f ratio gauge... Those are the only things that will tell you whats going on....

110° ICL is straight up if the cam is ground with 110° LSA, the difference between the two is the advance/retard ground into the cam.

Stock 300 cam is 110° LSA and 116° ICL, so 6° retarded.

Well today I installed a flex fan in place of the old solid unit. Hopefully that will free up some mpg.

. I usually consider about 106* ICL to be 'straight up'... (Intake lobe Center Line)... not sure if the cam company's printed spec.'s include the 'ground in' advance...

Now I'm not sure, but I think I just achieved close to 20mpg today.... Not sure exactly what it was, but I know it was 15 or better, leaning more towards the better side.
