I'm planning on getting this kit soon for my 390's two barrel carburetor, how does it look to you all? Anyone know much about the Walker company? And if someone has a better suggestion for a kit I'm all ears

That's the kit I used. I ended up making a gasket for the carb to spacer the kit gasket wasn't wide enough and had a massive vacuum leak.
Are you using an aftermarket spacer or is there one on there from the factory? Just asking to make sure 'cause I was assuming the stock carb wouldn't have a spacer, and I'd check mine right now but it's hundreds of miles away.
My complaints with the last kit I bought (Nov 13) are as follows:
1. The booster gasket was too long and need to be modified at the ends to clear the carb body. I did this with a hole punch.
2. The top cover gasket did not have the screw holes between the bowl and venturi in the right spot. They need to be enlarged outward to be correct. X-acto.
3. The gasket material is the thinnest I have ever seen it. There is a boss behind the air cleaner stud hole on the top cover that should be thinner than the gasket. This is no longer the case.
4. I had to remove the choke rod 'gasket' which is that plastic rectangle that goes where the choke rod goes through the air horn and make a thinner one so because it was interfering with the top cover install due to the thin gaskets.
I'm about ready to fire up the little bench top CNC I have and cut out a new gasket set out of thicker material. I do not remember if it was a Walker or a no-name, but I was highly disappointed.
These carbs are easy to rebuild. Cleanliness is everything. I use a small brass brush to get the large chunks of crud off and then do this: AircooledTech's Tools-On-The-Cheap - DIY Soda Blaster
Then I soak it in paint thinner and give it one last scrub with the brass brush. Air dry, reassemble. Use the biggest flat blade you can to get the jets out. I wrap the end in cereal box cardboard so it jams in there tight so as to not damage the brass.
Go with the Genuine Ford D4AZ9A586A kit Bill gave you the info on above. I say this not because I also am Ford Parts Man but because I've rebuilt zillions of carbs. The Ford kit's parts are made of higher quality material. Not glorified cardboard etc. Plus they will fit the carb. No X-acto knife needed. It may be more money, BUT as I've stated on other threads "you get what you pay for".
Well shoot JEFFFAFA I just picked up that Walker kit. The only reason I went with it is 'cause I had a gift card, but I still should have gotten that other one. I'll save that info if/when this one needs replacing.
351Cleveland C4, what happened to your carb? Sorry to hear about that
I'm not sure what's wrong with it. The cruise circuitry is screwed up. It leans WAY out and surges. I've cleaned it and rebuilt is substantially now. Even did some machine work on it. I never got it fixed. So I just replaced it with an edelbrock! Problem solved!
