fuel tank
That was all un-planned.
I had planned to move the gas tank out of the cab and somewhere under the frame.
Well - yesterday during my daily scans of craigslist I found a fuel tank for $50. Its a round barrel 19inches across & 24 inches long. It's mounted on a steel frame with feet to allow it to be bolted into the bed.
Now - to my calculating eye - PI * Rsquared * length = 6800 cubic inches of volume give or take. According to google - that is 29.5 gallons! Perfect!!
Now - I would really like to tuck this sucker up under the cab somehow - but that will involve a whole new exhaust. I'm not ready for that just yet, so I'm going to mount it in the bed with the filler on the passenger side.
I will have to order a new sending unit as the original in the tank does not work.
Plus I want to put some kind of spin on filter under the bed. I'll be re-plumbing the fuel line too - from the fuel pump back.
Not sure if you guys remember but last fall in the parade - after 90 minuts of idling, pulling a float I got some vapor lock - the existing fuel filter (metal canister) is right next to the exhaust - got hot and boiled the gas - I just barely made it back to the parking lot. So I want to fix this now.
Here we go!! Once I get the tank out of the cab I can start working on the seats, seat belts & general interior. Cant wait!
